Description
Venant des sols granitiques situés autour de la chapelle, au sommet de la colline de l'Ermitage, « l’Ermite» est une cuvée élaborée à partir de vieilles vignes de Syrah centenaires. Les vignes évoluent sur un très grand terroir granitique et pauvre. Après soutirage, le vin voit un élevage de 8 à 20 mois en fûts neufs et fûts d’un an.
“L’Ermite” 2020 est marqué par des notes herbales puissantes mêlées à un joli fruit noir, du minéral et du cuir noble. En bouche, la matière est puissante, généreuse et bien mûre. La finale minérale granitique est un pur régal, 20 ans de garde à minima.

Spectacular mountain freshness as well as enormous concentration and underplayed tannic power. The spicy complexity of this wine needs some time to unfold, but that is the best invested time I can imagine. Fabulous mineral freshness at the finish that you don’t ever want to let go of. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026."

The pure cassis fruit comes across as almost a bit one-dimensional, but that one fruit dimension is so broad and deep as to make any objections mere quibbles. Full-bodied and tannic, marked by a granite-rooted sense of austerity, the wine finishes silky, long and vibrant—another tour de force from one of Hermitage's most privileged sites."
